    Background: Honorable Ron Liepert, Alberta Minister of Health and Wellness has recommended that the Massage Therapy of Alberta (MTAA), the Remedial Massage Therapists Association (RMTA), the Natural Health Practitioners of Canada (NHPC) and the Alberta Association of Therapeutic Masseurs (AATM) each appoint two members to a Transitional Steering Committee to:

    1. develop a schedule under the Health Professions Act
    2. take all necessary steps towards incorporating as a single Society and develop a council and regulatory body structure so that it can transition to a College under the Act.
    3. that there be one category of Massage Therapist
    4. that the Massage College be responsible for developing entry level competencies based on a national competency level
    5. that this model should be based on the proposed 2009 national competency model, be a minimum of 2,200 hours and include significant content
    6. that the College must develop a transition plan in regulation to address registration of all current practitioners
    7. include assessment of substantial equivalencies, restricted practical licensure and establish an effective date whereby all new graduates from approved programs will meet the requirements of the Act.
  3. Motor Vehicle Task Force for Alberta Massage Therapists

    The multi-organizational Motor Vehicle Task Force for Alberta Massage Therapists was struck in February 2005 in response to Bill 53 ( Personal Injury: Insurance Reform Bill#53). It was to be an authoritative forum for all Alberta Massage Therapists to: share and develop information, and provide information through Alberta delegates to Alberta Government bodies needing information from Massage Therapists on issues pertaining to Alberta Motor Vehicle Accident Insurance. The Task Force consists of Chair Christy Kasur plus one representative from each major Massage Therapy organization in Alberta.
